Lost In The Translation - Corvette Dealer Price Guide
The Price Guide Runs Afoul!
writer: James Miles
By now all of you have seen the May Price Guide. And probably just as many of you have noticed a very large error made by the staff directly underneath Team VETTE. It was just last week I received a concerned call from Corvette Mike New England's Mike Milian. He asked if I had seen the issue yet and had taken a look through it. I myself had just received my obligatory staff copy some four weeks or so after we wrapped up the issue. I could tell right away by the tone in his voice something was rotten in the state of Denmark. Oh boy. As I turned the outlined pages, quick flashes ran through my head, "Flopped photo? Wrong address?" No. It had to be something bigger, although I hoped not. Doing a quick scan, my eyes led me to the part of the story Mike read aloud. Saying I was surprised by what followed directly after the introductory paragraph would be an understatement. I was at a loss for words. Well, not exactly...but what I did say probably couldn't be printed-unless I wanted to print another retraction next month!
As you no doubt have noticed, Mike was misquoted. No, that's not quite explaining it. Not only was he misquoted in the parts following his introduction, his quote was entirely replaced by a Dealer's Report that Terry Michaelis had given us well over a year ago. I now understood completely why I had received this call from a Plymouth, Massachusetts, Corvette dealer.
While we are unsure of the reasoning behind our missing Dealer Report (both Editor Bob and I read and signed a version of the Price Guide with the correct quote intact, which I hold in my hands as I write this), you can rest assured that we're on the case. Mr. Mike Milian, from the deepest recesses of our hearts, and Vettes, we are sorry for the offending paragraphs and would like this to serve notice as our public apology. Team VETTE hopes this did not cause you or your business, or your future relationship with VETTE Magazine, any harm. And for anyone who comes to you saying otherwise, we hope that this can serve as a just message for the hardship involved. As part of our public apology, we would like to reprint the Price Guide with the "correct text" as it should have appeared.
